Does the 2015 version of ISO 14001 bring any major changes?
Yes and No. Current ISO 14001 requirements are retained, including environmental analysis, emergency response and the obligation to continuously improve the EMS. The new requirements mainly concern consideration of the company's context and the expectations of interested parties, greater emphasis on management commitment, adoption of a life-cycle perspective to control the environmental aspects of products and services, and more stringent requirements in terms of improving environmental performance and communication, particularly externally. In addition to pollution prevention, the new version of the standard requires companies to be proactive in protecting the environment.
