Air is the environment in which countless plants, animals and some six billion people live, as well as a multitude of bacteria, fungi, viruses and pollen grains. It is also laden with dust, volcanic ash, salt crystals from sea spray, fine grains of sand from desert storms...
An aerosol is a suspension, in a gaseous medium, of solid or liquid particles, or both, with negligible falling velocity (v ≤ 25 cm · s -1 ). The term "microbiological aerosol" is more restrictive, as it takes into account the biological nature of the aerosol and its various properties: viability, infectious or allergenic character, etc.
Particles of biological origin, or bioaerosols, include bacterial and fungal cells, viral particles, microbial and plant cell fragments, and pollen....
