5. Conclusions and outlook

Indoor air treatment is likely to become a major concern for quality of life and home comfort in the near future, as awareness grows of the harmful effects on health of pollutants specific to the confined living environment found in our major conurbations. Most of these pollutants come from inside the home or living space itself, mainly as a result of the outgassing of furniture materials (furniture, coverings, paint, etc.), the use of household products and human activity. This growing demand for improved air quality calls for the development of reliable, low-cost air treatment systems that can be incorporated into air circulation systems and require little maintenance. One possible response to these demands is offered by systems using non-thermal plasma technology, combined with a catalytic filtration module that eliminates the ozone formation inherent in the use of plasma.
