Aire urbaine; Metropolitan area

A group of contiguous communes formed by an urban center (an urban unit offering more than 5,000 jobs) with more than 10,000 jobs and its peri-urban ring, i.e. communes where 40% of the resident active population work in another commune of the urban area.

Anthropisation; Anthropization

The positive and negative impact of human activities on the environment. It is one of the driving forces behind the way our planet functions, so much so that our era is often referred to as the Anthropocene.

Biosphère; Biosphere

All living organisms and the environment in which they live; in other words, the inhabited part of our planet. It extends from the first layers of the atmosphere to the first few kilometers of the Earth's crust.
