4. Conditional preventive maintenance

This maintenance is defined as that which is carried out only when the condition of the asset requires it. The immediate consequence is that it is necessary to know how to set up techniques for monitoring the condition of the asset (this is technically and economically feasible) and, above all, to be able to accurately qualify the asset's condition. A certain number of technical parameters, indicative of the asset's condition, must therefore be defined on a case-by-case basis. When this is possible (because it's not always the case!) we can optimize preventive maintenance operations by intervening only when necessary. This process can be simplified by saying that preventive maintenance should be carried out when the red light on the dashboard comes on. However, this poses another problem: defining acceptable thresholds for each of the previously defined parameters. This is a pitfall which...
