7. ASTM D6355 test: human testing, standard test method for human repeat insult patch testing (HRIPT)
This test was developed in the United States and standardized by the ASTM to evaluate the sensitizing potential of a cosmetic preparation or medical device intended to remain in contact with the body.
The principle of the test is the same as in animal testing.
Induction: the study material is applied at relatively low or non-irritating doses for three weeks to the volunteer's back or arm.
The latency period is two weeks.
Triggering: a single application of a non-irritating dose is made over 48 hours.
Skin reaction rating: an examination and rating of erythema and edema are performed.
