1. What tests can be used to detect sensitizing substances?
1.1 Skin sensitization
Four skin sensitization tests in animals are described, including three validated regulatory tests and two tests in humans. These tests are based on T-cell-mediated mechanisms.
Tests on albino guinea pigs are carried out according to the following schedule:
induction of sensitization;
latency/maturation time and cell proliferation (rest period of 10-15 days);
triggering;
rating of erythema and edema localized at the site of application according to the grid; the results are compared between the control group and the treated group.
