1.1 Definition
The name "ergonomics" comes from the Greek ergon (work) and nomos (laws) to designate the science of work.
Ergonomics is a discipline that uses a systems approach to study all aspects of human activity in the workplace.
The International Ergonomics Association (IEA) equates ergonomics with the study of human factors, and defines it as "the scientific discipline which aims at a fundamental understanding of the interactions between human beings and the other components of a system, and the implementation, in the design of theories, of principles, methods and relevant data in order to improve human well-being and the overall efficiency of systems".
