5. Analysis methods and reaction monitoring
Methods for analyzing and monitoring organic chemistry reactions on supports have long been inadequate, especially for insoluble three-dimensional polymers. A few classic techniques have been adapted to the solid phase (elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, assays, colorimetric tests). However, these methods are not all quantitative and generally provide little structural information. The boom in solid-phase synthesis has therefore necessitated the development of new technologies adapted to the direct analysis of insoluble polymers. The emergence and development of specialized equipment now makes direct structural analysis of resins possible. These high-tech devices give access to direct on-support reaction monitoring, yields of steps carried out on solid phase, and a better understanding of secondary or parasitic reactions that may take place within the polymer. Other techniques, such...
