3. Force and torque measurements

This paragraph only presents the integration of this measurement into the charging machine and the advantages of the different principles.

By convention, the torque measured on an internal combustion engine is positive when it supplies energy and negative when it receives energy, i.e., when it is driven.

Torque measurement is generally included in the scope of delivery of the loading machine and is based on two distinct principles:

  • the measurement of a force using a strain gauge bridge sensor, in the case of a load machine mounted on a balance;

  • direct measurement of torque on the shaft using a torque meter in the case of a fixed-mounted loading machine.
