9. Developments and trends

Bearing technology is constantly evolving, both in terms of specific performance and adaptation to the functions to be satisfied. Ongoing progress in steel manufacturing techniques and machining processes, combined with the advent of ceramic balls and the optimization of internal geometry (logarithmic roller profile) made possible by finite element analysis techniques, enable bearings to offer ever-improving performance in terms of mechanical strength, precision, longevity and low friction. Ceramic balls are now offered by most manufacturers for high-speed applications.
