2.1 Centering
Poor centering is the most common cause of short drill life and deterioration.
In applications where the tool is rotating, centering is achieved by drilling a pilot hole, using a guide bush or a self-centering drill, i.e. one whose geometry is such that it constantly tends to follow the center line.
