2.1 Foreword
The structure of a machine tool is essentially made up of two types of elements: the frame and the carriages. The frame is the fixed part of the machine. The carriages (linear or rotary) are the moving parts that can be arranged in different configurations: the dedicated term is "architecture".
The structure is the machine tool's "backbone", and its role is to preserve its geometric stability.
