 INTRODUCTION

Sawing is a process for cutting materials of various kinds. It is performed by removing material, using a tool called a blade. This tool is equipped with teeth whose shapes are designed to meet the needs of the operation in terms of workmanship quality and economic interest. In some cases, the teeth are replaced by concretions, deposits of high-hardness grains whose role is to act as a cutting edge.

Cutting with abrasive tools, such as cut-off wheels, has a specific character that has very little in common with sawing.

In sawing, metal is generally removed cold, i.e. the material cut is not denatured during the cutting process. However, in high-speed cutting techniques, the cut is made either on a material whose high temperature is obtained by tool friction, or on a material whose temperature is initially high.
