1. Non-nuclear line measurements

1.1 Measuring pressure, level and density of solutions in containers

Given the radioactive nature of the solutions, the techniques used exclude conventional techniques used in the chemical industry where sensors are in direct contact with the liquids (floats, float densimeters, etc.) or are in the tank enclosure above the liquid (sound or ultrasonic sensors, etc.).

The principle involves injecting low-flow air into bubbling tubes, the pressure of which, used as an indirect measure, is a function of the force that has to be overcome against the liquid column to evacuate the air at the end of the tube. The transmitters measuring this air pressure can therefore be installed in non-nuclear zones above the tanks.
