1. The growing role of natural gas in the global energy mix
The energy transition is the transition from an energy model based on over 80% fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) to a new model dominated by non-carbon energies (nuclear and renewable).
During the transition period, we will continue to exploit and use oil, but more rationally and more cleanly, while new energy sources gradually take over. This is what specialists call the "bouquet" or "mix" of the coming decades, made up of diversified energies that are more respectful of the environment.
This transition will be all the more lengthy and complex given that energy demand is set to continue rising until at least 2040 (figure 1 )
