 INTRODUCTION

People spend 1,650 hours a year in the offices, a significant proportion of which requires the use of lighting. In addition, the duration of lighting in common areas is between 1,600 and 1,700 hours. In France, office spaces alone account for 53,500 luminaires (115,500 lamps and 85,500 ballasts) out of a total of 82,400 luminaires (170,000 lamps and 122,500 ballasts) for all uses combined, i.e. a density of 0.2 luminaires per m 2 . Only 6% of these luminaires have been renovated.

The average energy flux in office premises is estimated at 15.7 W/m 2 , whereas with recent technologies, the accessible flux, with the same visual comfort, is 7 W/m 2 .

It is therefore imperative to reduce the energy consumption associated with lighting. This fact sheet will help you maintain or even improve the required levels of visual comfort as defined by AFNOR standard NF X35-103 "Principes d'ergonomie applicables à l'éclairage des lieux de travail" ("Ergonomic principles applicable to workplace lighting"), and to install lamp technologies that consume less energy.
