Insulation is a key element in the design of ventilated cladding. It performs several important functions, including thermal insulation, acoustic insulation, and fire protection. These functions are essential to ensuring the comfort of building occupants and to complying with regulatory fire safety requirements.
Materials used as insulation in ventilated cladding must comply with fire safety regulations. These regulations are defined by Technical Instruction No. 249 relating to facades. It specifies the requirements for fire resistance and reaction to fire for materials used in facades.
Several types of insulation can be used in ventilated cladding. Mineral wool panels or rolls are commonly used for their good thermal and acoustic insulation performance.
