11. How to prescribe

In Eurocode 2, Part 4, there is a chapter dedicated to prescription. This is because the performance and conditions of use of dowels can vary according to the different products.

The list of items required is given below:

• the concrete strength class used in the calculation, and whether or not the concrete is supposed to be cracked. If the concrete is assumed to be uncracked, a verification is required (see 4.7);

• environmental exposure assumed during calculation (see EN 206) ;

• a note indicating that the part number, manufacturer, type and geometry of the fasteners or the manufacturer, type and geometry of the insert rail or bolts must not be changed unless such changes have been verified and approved by the responsible designer;
