 INTRODUCTION

Most of the problems posed by the design and construction of movement areas are not specific to aerodromes: they arise in much the same way when designing and building roads and freeways. The general texts applicable to public works, and in particular the Cahiers des clauses techniques générales (cf. ), also apply to work on aerodromes, subject to the differences that will be indicated.

This article does not, therefore, claim to describe all the design methods and construction procedures used in the design of aerodromes, but rather to highlight the elements that are specific to them.

This article concludes a series devoted to airfields:

  • Aerodromes. Description and classification ;

  • Airfields. Design ;

  • Aerodromes. Local data taken into account ;

  • Airfields. Construction [C 4 453] ;

  • Aerodromes. For further information [Doc. C 4 454] .

Readers are referred to the article Road design and construction and [C 5 501] in this treatise.
