A bridge project can only be drawn up by an experienced engineer with a solid technical background in structural modeling, design and calculation standards, the physical and mechanical properties of materials that can be used under acceptable economic conditions, and execution methods.

Concrete and steel are still the preferred materials for bridge construction. However, wood, which until now has been used mainly to build footbridges or small bridges with little local traffic in mountainous areas, is becoming a "noble" material. It is still used to build footbridges, but also road bridges that fall into the category of standard structures, and a great deal of research is underway into the combination of wooden beams (glulam) and concrete slabs, usually high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete.
