6.1 Architectural choice
terminal design is directly linked to procedures and their evolution (strong constraints);
the design can be determined by the surface area and nature of the land available for the terminal;
design is linked to economic criteria that can change over time: building construction, operating, maintenance and running costs will influence the choice of functional design.

Terminal depth
If the principle of straight-line travel is to be respected as far as possible, a minimum depth of 40 to 50 m is quickly required. This depth can be increased to 70 m for heavy traffic and to meet safety requirements....
