3. Conclusion

The above presentation of the use of functional analysis in two areas - characterization and design - reflects a broader concern underlying the current economic context.

If you think about it, this method of reasoning is deeply rooted in the motivation of economic players. It is based on the observation that available resources are scarce, and that they must be put to the best possible use. This is the very basis of the "economy", which tends to spare what is available and make the most of it through the ingenuity of each individual. Implicit in this attitude is a concern for the survival of the social group. Functional analysis says it all. Every object has meaning only if it enables us to act to achieve a goal created by a lack.
