4. Application to reinforced wooden beams

4.1 Beam geometry

Thirty glued-laminated timber (glulam) beams of dimensions 2300×130×90 mm 3 were tested for the study. Twenty beams were strengthened with a partially compressed high-performance mortar plate, while the other ten served as control test bodies. Of the twenty reinforced beams (BLC + CFC), ten were also fitted with carbon FRP reinforcement in the tension zone (BLC + CFC + FRP). The CFC reinforcement element is 40 mm thick and 90 mm wide, its length being equal to the total length of the timber beam. The total length of the beams is 2.3 m, with a clear span of 2 m.
