2.1 Origin of defects (internal, external)
We will distinguish two types of faults to be detected by protection relays, according to their origin:
faults of internal origin, the source of which is damage to a component of the rotating electrical machine;
faults of external origin, the source of which is located outside the electrical machine, but the consequences of which may cause damage to the machine itself.
