 INTRODUCTION

This article is part of a series covering all the common problems encountered when designing and building industrial and tertiary electrical installations. Article [D5049] deals in particular with low-voltage connection installations, which are covered by the standard NF C 14-100 .

This article deals with the selection and installation of electrical equipment. The various types of equipment are described in terms of both selection and installation:

  • switchgear, disconnectors, overcurrent protection ;

  • rules relating to switchgear and signalling ;

  • other equipment, transformers, static power equipment are described.

Special installation cases are also covered in this article:

  • premises at risk of fire ;

  • rooms or locations containing a shower or bathtub;

  • residential premises ;

  • electrical service rooms.

Security sources are also described here.

The initial draft was prepared by Roland Auber, former chief engineer at FFIE, and Claude Remond, former chief engineer at UTE. An initial update was carried out in 2005.

In this first article, we deal with the regulatory and structural aspects of electrical installations.

The other articles cover the various characteristics of electrical installations, protection against direct and indirect contact, electrical protection, conduits, equipment, inspection and maintenance, and connection rules.
