The optimization of reliability calculations at the electronic level is now being addressed. The objective is to refine the assessment of a system's reliability by identifying areas where the failure rate can be reduced without modifying the hardware architecture. To do this, certain standard functions within the electronic circuits need to be identified that can be optimized based on their actual role in the overall functioning of the system.

Four broad categories of traditional functions that could be optimized have been identified:

  • non-essential functions that do not have a critical impact on system performance or safety in the event of failure;

  • partially used functions that operate occasionally or secondarily, limiting their actual contribution to the overall risk;
