7. Conclusion and outlook

Today, the deployment of highly hierarchical DC infrastructures based on Clos topologies represents an engineering choice widely shared by leading network operators. Their ability to support the scale factor is indeed a considerable asset in guaranteeing the availability and performance of resources brought into play by a wide variety of services. In particular, services based on the Internet of Things, which are characterized by unrivalled scaling factors, are likely to benefit from resources hosted within MSDC infrastructures. However, the deployment of such infrastructures raises new challenges, not only in terms of automated resource production, but also in terms of routing policies that are precisely adapted to highly hierarchical environments.
