Overview
ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to present the IP Multimedia domain via the interfunctioning of the IMS (IP Multimedia System). The IMS domain allows for the interconnection and continuity of existing traditional telephone networks such as the PSTN. Subscribers communicate between themselves via the IMS services but also via IMS services hosted on other platforms. The interoperability with the circuit domain (GSM and PSTN) through the 3GPP and various concrete examples of service delivery are presented. Finally, the billing practice is mentioned, be it post-use or online (i.e. pre-use) and calculated according to the service, its duration, volume, etc.

INTRODUCTION
Integrated above the packet domain of telecommunications networks, the IMS domain enables subscribers to communicate with each other via IMS services, or to access IMS services hosted on service platforms. To enable the gradual introduction of IMS terminals into telecoms networks, interconnection with existing networks is essential. Interoperability with the circuit domain (GSM and PSTN) is covered by 3GPP release 5, and release 6 also covers interworking with the classic Internet (terminals supporting an IETF SIP stack).
The IMS network is designed to ensure the continuity of existing services, such as those provided by the classic PSTN telephony network, but also to enable the rapid development of multimedia services. These two aspects will be presented in this article through concrete examples of service implementation.
Finally, IMS services can be billed online (before use) or after use, by volume, duration, content or a combination of these billing methods.
