4. The various contributions to value in virtual reality

Once we've identified what makes virtual reality unique, we'll try to show how the value created can be enhanced.

4.1 Sensation and perception (not realism) are the basis of VR

At the intersection of computer science, cognitive science and the humanities, VR is fueled by two fundamental phenomena strongly characteristic of human and animal species:

  • sensation is based on sensory signals;

  • perception translates these signals into "sensory imagination".
