 INTRODUCTION

This is the last in a series of five dossiers describing Digital Media Asset Management, DMAM (or simply MAM, or DMM), which has become a key function in digital audio, photo and video media systems, enabling you to find the element you're looking for in a mass of data. With metadata ( [TE 5 885] § 3), additional data associated with data representing sounds or images to identify them and describe both content and container (format), it enables integration and coordination (figure 1 ):

  • acquisition, analysis-indexing and editing ;

  • storage, media data and metadata management, search ;

  • rights management and protection ;

  • distribution on digital optical networks and media, and the sale of digital media, presented in the first two parts of this dossier .

Workflow management, a function that cuts across the entire DMAM chain, completes this document.

See [Doc. TE 5 891] - Tables T and U for an overview of companies offering integrated products or DMAM modules.
