8. The current state of standardization

The adoption of a service by a user, consumer or company is based on trust rather than contract. In the world of the Cloud, as in any technical field, the stumbling block to stabilization and maturity of the technology is measured by the quality of standardization, its adoption and use by suppliers. Numerous start-ups launched their ventures in 2005, with highly innovative but incompatible approaches. The availability of low-cost servers made it possible to distribute functions and performance over a large number of nodes, thanks to strong interconnections. A great deal of research and experimentation in this area led to the development of grid infrastructures, followed by storage nodes enabling Cloud Storage. Standardization provides a common foundation that simplifies coding and standardizes functions.
