3. Intelligent predictive maintenance for Industry 4.0

The concept of intelligent predictive maintenance emerged around a decade ago as part of the fourth industrial revolution, exploiting all the components of Industry 4.0 outlined in point 1 above. It corresponds to a major evolution in the field of conventional predictive maintenance defined in standard NF EN 13306. This defines predictive maintenance as "condition-based maintenance carried out on the basis of a forecast obtained from a repeated analysis or from known characteristics and an assessment of the parameters significant for the degradation of the asset".

Two distinct approaches have been developed for conventional predictive maintenance, which in most cases only concerns data relating to a clearly identified piece of equipment.
