Here, we explain how integrative chemistry can be used to create rational designs for advanced functional materials. We have focused on emulsions as a large-scale shaping system, but other tools are also available, such as coaxial fluid extrusion, electric field extrusion, dip coating, spin coating, spinodal decomposition, phase inversion and so on. As for the core-shell objects described in this paper, which respond to a rise in temperature, we see here a manifestation of colloidal dynamics induced by an external field. We will seek to minimize their size while increasing their complexity with milli- and microfluidic tools. In addition, we are seeking to localize heating on the capsules themselves rather than on the entire surrounding medium by including iron oxide nanoparticles, thereby hoping for magnetothermo-stimulated release (hyperthermia).
