3. Multi-scale approach to time and space

The aim of process engineering is to develop concepts, methodologies and technologies to better understand, design, engineer and optimize the physical, chemical and biological transformation of raw materials and energy into products that are useful to the consumer.

But, as we pointed out earlier, today's emphasis on developing the useable properties of certain products requires the use of a wide variety of technologies, including the new role of microtechnologies, i.e. the use of micromixers, microheat and material exchangers, and microstructured reactors to intensify certain production processes. 60% of all products sold by the chemical and related industries are crystalline, amorphous or polymeric solids.
