6. Conclusions and outlook
Alopecia is a real problem in our society, affecting men and women of all ages. It can be linked to several disorders: hormonal, hereditary, nutritional, psychological, environmental, etc. This wide range of factors has led manufacturers to offer several types of treatment.
Androgenic alopecia is the most common type. It involves hair loss across the entire scalp and is linked to two factors: hormones and genetics. In terms of hormonal factors, it is the increase in testosterone levels converted into dihydrotestosterone by 5α-reductase that causes the hair growth phase to shorten. In addition to androgenic alopecia, other types of alopecia have been reported: telogen effluvium (sometimes caused by shock or periods of stress) and alopecia areata, which is considered an autoimmune disease.
