1. First approach to immersion

If, in the course of a conversation, you use the word "emotion", your correspondent is unlikely to ask you about the meaning of this word. If, on the other hand, you use the word "pervasiveness", chances are they'll ask you what you think it means. The author was always surprised to find that, whatever the context, the word "immersion", like the word "emotion", was not the subject of any questions about its meaning or definition. Your interlocutor enters right into the subject. What's more, talking about immersion very often induces a feeling of immediate reminiscence of a lived experience that they want to share with you.

This observation leads us to believe that the meaning of this word could have a universal dimension, and that we don't need to define it in order to talk about it. In fact, most of this article can be written... and read, without prior definition....
