3. Mechanisms involved in visual localization

Nowadays, 3D vision parameters allow us to classify the variables that play a role in 3D vision into two categories:

  • monocular indices;

  • binocular cues.

3.1 Monocular indices

Monocular cues are depth information that the brain interprets as being related to the distance of objects. This information is unique in that it can be interpreted in the sense of distance from the observer, even though it is given by only one eye.

A distinction is made between physiological cues and psychological cues acquired through learning.
