9. Conclusion
The processing techniques described in this article are not specific to stainless steels, but given their physical properties and mechanical characteristics, some are more suitable than others.
For example, when it comes to cutting, we prefer techniques that cause little oxidation (mechanical cutting, underwater plasma cutting, laser cutting).
For forming, particularly deep-drawing, particular attention is paid to lubrication. When compatible with the final shape of the part, hydroforming is preferred, as its potential for stainless steels has not yet been exhausted.
Machining, which mainly concerns long products, benefits both from the performance of grades with improved machinability, and from advances in cutting tools (ceramics, etc.).
