7. Finishing treatments

They mainly concern welded joints (and heat-treated parts) which, depending on the process, may be coated with oxides. The presence of these oxides means the absence of a passive layer, and therefore greatly reduced corrosion resistance. With certain welding processes (resistance welding), the surface of the material is hardly altered at all, and brushing may suffice. Otherwise, a pickling-passivation treatment is required.

7.1 Stripping

When the welded joint or an entire part is covered with colored oxides, these must be removed to restore the alloy's passive character.

Several techniques can be used.
