 INTRODUCTION

Since its first industrial use in the automotive industry in 1977 as an anticorrosion primer, millions of vehicles have been painted using the cataphoretic process. Today, the entire world's automobile production is protected by cataphoresis, as are trucks and commercial vehicles.

Cataphoresis is also widely used by automotive subcontractors, and by the metal industry in general: household appliances, metal furniture, agricultural equipment, radiators. The process offers very high levels of anti-corrosion protection, combined with a high degree of automation.

It should be noted that the quantities of cataphoretic painted surfaces in general industry are equivalent to those in the automotive industry: around 1 billion chemical square meters (i.e. double-sided) per year for Europe!

Cationic electroplating or cataphoresis is a dip painting process used mainly in the automotive and other metal industries as an anticorrosion primer. Thanks to its superior performance, it succeeded anaphoresis, which came into widespread industrial use in 1966.
