6. High-temperature nitriding of stainless steels

This process, developed by IPSEN is designed for the treatment of stainless steels in two versions: "M" for martensitic stainless steels and "A" for austenitic stainless steels. It is designed to avoid carbide precipitation and is an alternative to low-temperature nitriding and carburizing, with the possibility of obtaining deeper, enriched layers. The version applied to martensitic steels is the most interesting.
