6.1 Favorable geochemical environments

The average beryllium content of the Earth's crust is 2 to 3.5 ppm. This element is dispersed in geological environments as diverse as intrusive igneous rocks, skarns and supergene alteration products. During magma crystallization, beryllium is progressively concentrated in the fluids, and its concentration increases in increasingly recent rocks, when the sequence of genetic events is considered. Its concentration also increases with that of silica and alkalis (0.25 ppm in peridotite; 0.5 ppm in basalt or gabbro; 5 ppm in rhyolite or granite).
