10. Reheating ovens
Heating steel products for rolling can be a source of atmospheric pollution through combustion fumes, which (except in the case of electric heating) contain sulfur and nitrogen oxides, as well as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and soot.
It also leads to surface oxidation of steels, with the production of scale.
10.1 Sulfur oxides
Virtually all the sulfur in the fuel is released into the atmosphere as sulfur dioxide SO 2 with a small proportion of sulfuric aerosol.
