Overview

ABSTRACT

Established rolling technologies and operational methods are evolving in terms of dimensional and thermal performance and metallurgical quality to better meet user requirements. Economic requirements are also taken into account for the market development of the commodities derived from these technologies. And in the future, we can expect a diversification in the types of hot-strip mills. The choice of equipment will depend on the level of production, the orders received and the steel grades and qualities required by the end user.

 INTRODUCTION

In the first part, we reviewed the history of rolling mills and strip mills. We showed how strip mills are currently used around the world, and reviewed the development of these tools. We show how the products obtained are permanently adapted to the corresponding markets. Finally, we looked at the theoretical and practical aspects of rolling on these tools.

Let's take a look at how the technologies in place are evolving, and how operators are driving their tools to better meet user needs, in terms of dimensional performance, thermal performance and metallurgical quality. Economic requirements are also taken into account, to enable the market development of basic products derived from these tools.

Taking into account the development and improvement of existing technologies, on the one hand, and the emergence of new techniques, on the other, we propose a few perspectives and trends for the future.
