Mechanical stresses, temperature and humidity above certain thresholds are the main indicators of damage that affect the durability of the adhesive system.
3.1 Failure modes and durability
The two main modes of joint failure are cohesive failure in the joint and adhesive failure at the interface. When considering the assembly and not just the joint, cohesive failure in the substrate(s) should be added (figure 9 ).
