SCROLL TO TOP

3.1.1 Surface interactions

The main mechanisms contributing to the tribological behaviour of DLC are :

  • the formation of a thin transfer layer, or tribofilm, with low shear resistance to accommodate the velocity gradient between the two solids;

  • adsorption and desorption of atoms or molecules on the surface of the DLC film; these phenomena will condition the adhesive effects at the interface.
