4. The problem of exposure variability – Measurement strategies

Operators' exposure conditions at their workstations are not identical throughout the year. Various factors can combine to cause significant variations from one day to the next, but also between operators performing the same task. These factors include those dependent on :

  • work processes: intensity of sources in relation to the activity, the current phase of the production process, etc. ;

  • climatic: temperature conditions, for example, the evaporation rate of a solvent, but also the opening or closing of workshop openings (improving general ventilation, but also the presence of draughts which disrupt local ventilation systems to a greater or lesser extent);

  • interoperators: depending on the professional gesture, whether or not you're used to performing the task.
