Freund's complete admixture

An emulsion of water and oil, sometimes with added bacteria (Koch's bacilli, which have been rendered harmless [killed]). This adjuvant is used to stimulate the immune response.

Antigen/allergen

An antigen is any substance foreign to the body that triggers an immune response aimed at eliminating it. Antigens are usually proteins or peptides (protein fragments) that are specifically recognized by antibodies and also by certain white blood cells, the T8 lymphocytes. Antibodies are produced by B lymphocytes, and their production is stimulated by T4 lymphocytes, which act as the orchestra conductor of the immune system.
