2. What causes cell multiplication?
There are two types of cell multiplication, depending on whether they are somatic or sex cells.
2.1 Mitosis
This process is specific to all cells in the body, with the exception of sex cells.
During cell multiplication, each cell (mother cell) divides into two daughter cells with identical genetic material (diploid cells).
The process of mitosis is divided into four phases:
the nucleus dissolves and the DNA is distributed in the cytoplasm (prophase);
chromosomes are replicated and reunited at the center of the cell on a bundle of microtubules attached to two centrosomes (metaphase);
